INTO THE NEW YEAR 2010

Its been a while since I sat down to the Blog and I apologise to all those who are itching for more news (all two of you probably!).
You will be surprised to know that it has been very cold here but nothing of course compared to the UK.  After Christmas I did an unbelievable thing - I went with some friends to a game of Bingo!  It was quite a challenge because numbers in French are a little confusing to say the least, but the prizes were amazing - not that I won anything of course but my friend Debbie the Aussie won a freezer full of goodies.  The prizes were all meat and wine with boxes of oysters thrown in for good measure.  I never imagined anyone would get me to go to Bingo but I cant wait for the next one!

Driving is going well with no scrapes so far but I havent ventured into the main city of Narbonne yet as it has either been too cold or too wet and there is no fun wandering round the shops in that weather.

My most exciting bit of news so far is that I have booked a safari for myself in September.  Unfortunately Dave just doesnt feel up to going with me so travelling alone to Africa is going to be a real adventure.  I am staying a night in London, just to guarantee that I dont miss the Kenya flight and then I go to Nairobi where I spend one day and night during which I will be going to the Karen Blixen Museum which is her old house where Out of Africa was filmed.  The next day I fly to the Samburu reserve for four nights and then on to the Mara where I may be lucky enough to see some of the Great Migration.  Samburu is my favorite place and I just have to go back there one more time, several times would be great but as we get older we have to consider returning to places may not be possible.  I will be staying 4 nights in the Mara in a newly built tented camp so that should be an experience.    If there is anybody out there who fancies joining me, just let me know!

It is the Mayors party next month so we are all hoping it will be as good as last year.  The village is quiet at the moment so roll on Spring when it livens up.  The garden is quiet at the moment too in fact it looks very dark and drab but then so do all gardens at this time of year.  I did notice this afternoon that the Mimosa is almost ready to flower so that will make a good photo for the next post.

Well there is dusting to be done and a dinner to prepare - c'est la vie
